BY 2030 THE THAMES BARRIERS WILL BE OBSOLETE

The predicted tide levels will not just affect London. They will reduce the areas of saltmarsh and marshland along the coast. These expanses that once acted as wave energy dissipators will be underwater. Our shorelines are at risk of eroding into the sea. Valuable habitat will be lost.

We need a barrier further east, that will also serve Kent and Essex; a tidal surge barrier that will protect from the highest tides, whilst allowing free movement of water during normal tidal cycles.
